Well, it’s been a while since my last post (hello, pre-COVID days!), so it feels like the perfect time to catch up. Life has been a blend of school, work, love, and creative projects, and I’m finally taking a moment to share some highlights.
Stuck in Senoritisville (Yep, Still in School!)
I’m still grinding away at my software engineering degree from Western Governors University. The journey started with a plan in software development, but as things go, life likes to keep it interesting. My degree track shifted to software engineering, adding four more classes – fun times! Eight classes to go, and I’ll finally be closing out this chapter of “the perpetual student.” But for real without this school my life would be so different. I owe WGU so much.
Met the Love of My Life ❤️
During all this, I somehow managed to meet and marry the love of my life in a beautifully unexpected way. Lucky doesn’t even begin to describe it! I also gained a bonus kiddo named Amor. She’s almost ten, and we spend a lot of our time reading together, exploring the big dreams of childhood, and learning about life. Life is just better with her and my amazing partner by my side.
Work Life in Washington State
By day, I’m a systems engineer for the government. I get to work with Power Automate, SharePoint, and other tools to support HR and a small department dedicated to assisting those affected by domestic violence. It’s meaningful work, and I’m grateful to be able to give back in this way. After relocating, Washington has become home, though my roots were initially planted in Austin, Texas. Hook Em’.
Creative World: Ouroboros Poetry Book
I’m also finally wrapping up a passion project – my poetry book, Ouroboros. Each poem is accompanied by my own artwork, capturing different pieces of life I’ve reflected on along the way. I’ve titled it Ouroboros for a reason. The ouroboros symbol, a serpent eating its own tail, represents infinity and the endless cycle of life. To me, it also symbolizes personal wholeness and how we are always re-creating and re-discovering ourselves, devouring the past to make space for what’s next. Every poem in the book carries its own meaning and a lesson from a unique moment in my life.
Beyond the Binary – Sci-Fi Novel in the Works
I’m also about 5,000 words into my new sci-fi novel, Beyond the Binary, a space opera centered around Ren, my main character. This story is set in an expansive universe and explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the intricacies of companionship (even with an unconventional companion). It’s an ambitious project, but every day with it feels like an adventure of its own.
Quantum Writers Club – A New Community
On top of it all, I’m launching the Quantum Writers Club, a peer-to-peer community where a few of us local writers gather to share insights, feedback, and motivation on our current projects. We’re hoping to grow it and eventually create an anthology for self-promotion, featuring diverse voices and stories. It’s been energizing to build a space for writers to encourage each other’s progress! Visit the page here where I blog about what we are learning.
